1. Introduction

Smartbee LLC ("we", "our", or "us") operates Gratiq, a tip calculator application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our service.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Camera and Photos

Gratiq requests access to your device's camera to photograph receipts. This permission is only used when you actively choose to scan a receipt.

2.2 Receipt Images

When you scan a receipt, the image is sent to Google Gemini AI for processing to extract the subtotal and tax amounts. The image is processed in real-time and is not stored on our servers, except when you separately opt in to share a failed scan (see Section 2.8).

2.3 Tip History

Your tip calculation history is stored locally on your device using browser localStorage. This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to our servers. You can delete this data at any time through the app's History feature.

2.4 Analytics Data

We may use Google Analytics to collect anonymous usage statistics such as page views and feature usage. This helps us improve the app. No personally identifiable information is collected.

2.5 Anonymized Receipt Data

With your consent, we collect anonymized receipt data to improve our service and provide better tipping insights. This includes: merchant names and categories, menu items and prices, transaction amounts (subtotal, tax, tip), and meal timing. No personal identifiers (user ID, device ID, credit card numbers) are ever collected or stored. Receipt images are not part of this data. You can opt out of this data collection at any time.

2.6 Location Data

With your permission, we may collect approximate location data (rounded to neighborhood level) when you scan a receipt. This is used to provide local restaurant and tipping insights. Location data is always optional — you can deny the permission and the app will work normally without it.

2.7 Advertising

We may display advertisements through third-party ad networks (such as Google AdMob). These services may collect information about your app usage and device to show relevant ads. This may include device identifiers, ad interaction data, and general usage patterns. You can opt out of personalized advertising in your device settings (Settings > Privacy > Advertising).

2.8 Failed Scan Photos (Optional)

When a receipt scan fails, we may ask whether you want to send a reduced-size copy of that one photo to help us diagnose recognition problems. A photo is sent only if you choose "Send this photo", and your choice applies to that photo only. Because it is a photo of your receipt, it may contain whatever is printed there (for example the restaurant, server name, date, amounts, or the last digits of a payment card); do not share a photo if that concerns you. Photos shared this way are stored privately, used solely to improve receipt recognition, never used for advertising or shared with third parties, and are deleted automatically within 30 days. Choosing "No thanks" has no effect on the app, and we will not ask again.

3. Third-Party Services

Gratiq uses the following third-party services:

• Google Gemini AI - For receipt image analysis
• Google Analytics - For anonymous usage statistics
• Google AdMob - For displaying advertisements

4. Data We Do NOT Collect

• Personal information (name, email, phone number)
• Credit card numbers or bank account information
• User accounts or device identifiers
• Receipt images on our servers (unless you opt in to share a failed scan, Section 2.8)

5. Data Security

Your tip history is stored only on your device. Receipt images are transmitted securely via HTTPS to Google's servers for processing and are not retained after analysis. Failed-scan photos you choose to share (Section 2.8) are stored in a private, access-controlled bucket and removed within 30 days.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Delete your tip history at any time through the app
• Deny camera and location permissions
• Opt out of anonymized data collection
• Decline to share failed-scan photos
• Use the manual input feature instead of scanning

7. Children's Privacy

Gratiq is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
